Graduates of Scott Miller’s training programs at Western Yoga College have already been teaching at Anam Cara, and now Scott will expand the Ashtanga offering at Anam Cara, adding three three-hour Mysore Ashtanga classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and one Sunday Ashtanga class, to the Introduction to Ashtanga classes offered by Diane on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons. (See our schedule).
Mysore is the city in India, where Pattabhi Jois developed and taught Ashtanga yoga. After studying for years with the world’s most renowned Ashtanga teachers, including Jois, Scott brought this form of hatha yoga to Riverside and has been teaching it here for over a decade. Mysore Ashtanga classes will be conducted in a three-hour workshop style, meaning that students can arrive and leave at will rather than expect a formal program of instruction over the entire three hours. It’s okay to come to these classes even if you have no yoga experience. Beginners are always welcome, and both beginners as well as more advanced practitioners often find the relatively informal presentation uniquely rewarding, helping them to discover, observe, and develop new perspectives and approaches.
There will also be extremely advanced practitioners there doing what advanced “Ashtangis” do, but you’ll be taught at your level. That’s the way it works with Ashtanga. All we ask is that you be serious about wanting to develop a regular practice. What Ashtanga requires most is real yogic commitment.
