Your teacher also breaks down Surya Namaskars (sun salutes), shows you some excellent injury prevention techniques, introduces you to some terms used in yoga, shows you how to use the props and generally deconstructs a class for you. Questions are encouraged and welcomed in this very informal, friendly and informative class!

Chanting: Chanting mantras is the yoga of sound. Chanting has been used for centuries as an aid to humans who seek to communicate with the divine spirit within themselves and the universe. Chanting has the effect of raising the level of vibration of the individual practicing the chant, and it can help the practitioner to be filled with peace, and feel calm and centered.

Yoga Pilates Fusion: Vinyasa Flow designed to effectively strengthen, tone and balance the entire body. Students will focus on form and precision while performing small isometric movements as the instructor emphasizes basic alignment, foundation, and specific muscle actions. Each class includes several highly effective sequences of toning and resistance exercises with an emphasis on the core strengthening moves derived from pilates. This is a challenging, no impact class that requires focus and precision for maximum results.

Ashtanga: This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

Deep Stretch: Explore asanas that focus on the deeper tissues of the body remaining in a pose for several minutes…great for anyone who wants to become more flexible. All levels.

Hot Power Yoga: Hot Power Yoga offers a vigorous yet accessible style of yoga which sculpts your body, builds strength and flexibility, releases stress and calms your mind: All levels, challenging.

Iyengar-Inspired Hatha Flow: A comprehensive, balanced class with a steady flow, relaxation between postures, and guided breathing techniques throughout. A creative sequence of classic Hatha yoga postures with in-depth instruction and structural alignment cues. You have the option to use props to assist the body in creating proper positioning allowing you to go deeper into the pose, working in a range of motion that is safe and effective helping to prevent injury while challenging the boundaries of your strength. Beginner to advanced. Suitable for all interested in achieving proper alignment.

Little Yogis (Yoga for Kids): The emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual effects of yoga resonate within children, too. Yoga fosters self-acceptance, which is increasingly significant as children approach the peer-pressured, teenage years. As children transition through postures and try new poses, the relationship between their mind and body evolves, allowing them to trust their own instincts. Yoga not only teaches children techniques to sharpen their focus by quieting the mind, but it also creates a subtle motivation to learn. Your children will gain improved posture, coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility through our monthly kids yoga workshops!

Mysore Ashtanga: Mysore Ashtanga yoga is the ultimate way to develop your practice, no matter where you are in it. The classes are presented in an open workshop style, meaning no set arrival or departure times for participants. (Nor are you “on the clock” – you can stay for an hour, or stay for three, at no extra charge.) Everyone practices the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga sequence at their own pace, and ability level, receiving physical assistance and individualized instruction. The experience is for total beginners and advanced alike, working individually and collectively towards greater levels of purification, flexibility, strength, and calm. WARNING: It’s addictive! For more, see Ashtanga with Scott Miller.

Restorative Yoga: This class focuses on relaxation and renewal. Blankets, bolsters, straps, and other props safely support the body in various postures which allows the body to move towards a state of balance soothing your nervous system, quieting your mind and inviting you to release deeply held tension. Some benefits of deep relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure, serum triglycerides and sugar levels in the blood, the increase of the “good cholesterol” levels, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination, the reduction of muscle tension, insomnia and generalized fatigue. Restorative poses are sustained for ten or more minutes or for as longs as comfortable. All levels.

The Total Package: Drawing from elements of Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga. A physically challenging and dynamic type of yoga, poses can be advanced at times, and the generation of heat from the body during the practice is used to allow the muscles to lengthen safely and can help in the clearing the body of toxins. This class is appropriate for all levels, as modifications are given to both lessen and to intensify asana (postures). This style also remains popular with traditional yogis seeking to take the practice to the next level.

Vinyasa Flow: “Vinyasa” is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”. The teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. The poses run together smoothly and become like a dance. Vinyasa yoga incorporates core strengthening, a strong standing sequence, hip openers and backbends. It includes repetition of Sun Salutations and longer-held asanas. Inversions and arm balances are also explored. All levels, however a challenging class.
